SPINEL
Spinels were only recognized as an independent rock group around 150 years ago. Due to their color, they were previously mistaken for corundum, especially ruby and sapphire. Since history, particularly colored spinels such as rubies and sapphires have been valued and kept in the treasures of kings as valuable gemstones and healing stones. The spinels owe their name to the Greek word "spinther", which means "sparkle".
